Community Bike Ride: Sunday, September 6th, 2009
The first annual community bike ride to support mental health and recovery was held on Sunday, September 6th. It was a wet and windy day but several riders managed to join us to help raise awareness and funds to support mental health in our community.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, and Chris Reynolds for being the inspiration, to Radio Play for providing great musical entertainment, Wayne Cho for his excellent and inspiring speech, all our corporate sponsors who assisted us with supplies, and especially to all our volunteers without whose help this event could never have happened!
Visit the official web-site for more details about the event.
Your Wellness Day: May 29th. 2009
On May 29th CMHA and the MPA held the first annual Your Wellness Day - an opportunity to help support mental health initiatives while treating oneself at a spa or salon. What could be better!
Much like the annual "Dine Out For Life" event where restaurants donate a percentage of a specific day's takings, Your Wellness Day is a new event where participating salons and spas will donate 20 percent of gross profits to promoting mental health in our community.
CMHA Vancouver-Burnaby has partnered with MPA for this endeavour, and we hope to make it an annual event.
Your Wellness Day is over for this year, but check back at the web-site next spring to find out about participating salons and how you can contribute while treating yourself!
As always, we are thankful to the participating businesses, and to you for booking appointments and supporting community mental health.
The Ride for Mental Health
On Tuesday May 19th, on a windy but sunny afternoon, we were thrilled to be present at the beginning of Mel's journey to raise awareness around mental health and illness.
RadioPlay provided a great musical performance, Dr. Art Hister offered, as always, a humorous yet thoughtful speech, and bananas and stress cards were handed out by the hundreds!
